Imagine a world without VISA, without MASTERCARD, without PayPal, without Payoneer, without Zelle, without Bank Credits to individuals.

That world exists, today, in 2021, that is a world called Cuba.

Cuba is a country very rich in culture, very rich in human resources, very sociable and hospitable.

But Cuba and the Cubans live under severe economic sanctions, with a political foundation for 62 years.

Millions of Cubans have learned to survive under these circumstances, and especially the entrepreneurs who manage day by day to position themselves in an international market with hardly the resources and financial instruments necessary to do so.

Bitcoin as a saving tool.

From my point of view, as a web developer, I have found in Bitcoin a masterful solution to financial globalization, from the country where I am. Thanks to Bitcoin we have developed an alternative economy that grows more every day and gains new players.

This is the year of modeling and translating to computer systems based on the blockchain, all our projects and collection mechanisms worldwide.

Delighted to participate and contribute our experiences from Cuba.

I've been paid in Bitcoin (and sometimes Ethereum) only for the past three years. It started because that was how my job wanted to pay me, but now I prefer it, and made getting my salary in Bitcoin a prerequisite when I joined CMC last year. As an American living abroad, having a crypto salary is really the most cost-efficient way to live. I get Bitcoin, and I can easily convert it to rubles with LocalBitcoins to pay rent, and just as easily using Coinbase convert it to dollars to pay my credit card bills. If I was paid in just fiat, then the transaction fees and times of converting back and forth to other fiat currencies becomes astronomical.

I also have my friends and parents accept Bitcoin from me. When I bought a friend's old MacBook, I used Bitcoin. When I paid my dad back for something, I made him create a Bitcoin wallet. Just little things to show people how easy it is to use, and at the very least give them something to talk about with their friends :)

My biggest challenge with getting paid only in Bitcoin has been this year, when I bought a house that needed a full renovation. I'm actually trying to get that story written a published (funding a Russian lake house reconstruction during a pandemic using only Bitcoin), so I won't share too much yet :)

The Urbit community has been steadily integrating bitcoin. Eventually, it will be possible to unlock content by checking to see if a planet (a person using Urbit) has paid X dollars. With this and Tlon hosting, Urbit will offer censorship resistance and convenience.

I've been earning Bitcoin sinxe late 2017, before the previous Bitcoin ATH. I'm not rich but I have the means to survive the destruction of the economy of my country. I'm a venezuelan living in Caracas. It's hard to understand how usefull a borderless and pristine money is if you're in the first world, but in places like these, have the ability to receive payments for clients around the world is a blessing. I'm trying to share this information with other venezuelans because I'm not special, so I thinl that any other venezuelan could figure out how to take adventage of Bitcoin.

You can read me @ satoshienvenezuela.com, and see me @ Youtube.com/c/satoshienvenezuela.

Keep crushing it, Leigh.

I don't use bitcoin for much beyond "digital gold," to be honest. I do use stablecoins on Ethereum almost every day for running my newsletter https://thedefiant.substack.com/. About 25% of my subscribers pay their subs in Dai using this protocol https://unlock-protocol.com/ which also gives them a Defiant NFT :) I also get Dai from Gitcoin Grants https://gitcoin.co/grants/567/the-defiant. And I pay my contributors in Dai over simple MetaMask transactions that take seconds and used to take cents -- but now they're a bit more expensive so looking to migrate to a Layer 2 wallet. I put my Dai to work with platforms like Yearn Finance which automatically deposits my stablecoins in the lending platform that's getting the highest interest rates. This is all extremely easy to do. I encourage everyone to try!
